Theme:
“The role of the modern day Sheriff of Nottingham is to protect and uphold the legend of Robin Hood.

A group of ruthless kidnappers have taken the Sheriff and are demanding the fabled golden arrow of Robin Hood as ransom. They have given you and your team 24 hours to comply with their demands, that was 23 hours ago…

Your team has searched all manner of Robin Hood related locations looking for the arrow, from Nottingham Castle to Sherwood Forest, but to no avail. Your last shot is the private office of the Sheriff an unusual and unique room with many hidden secrets to find, ancient codes to crack and elaborate puzzles to solve.”

We previously reviewed the Original “Robin” You can read that review here, unfortunately, that game had quite a short life and whilst we enjoyed it, Escapologic decided it wasn’t up to their exacting standard and decided to completely revamp the game, and by revamping that means rip it out and start again!

The game starts off within the Sherriff’s modern-day office, a classy space with plush fittings and an air of elegance about it. Quickly though, the subterranean element of Robin is rediscovered and from this moment on the game takes an urban explorer vibe. There is a tremendous sense of discovery in this game, with every door that opens leading to a new space, a new challenge and taking us deeper on our quest to find the elusive golden arrow.
The latter part of the game is fairly small, although when compared to the original game there is seemingly more space, in that it is utilised in a better way. It does not feel grubby or dirty.
There is also a GREAT transition between space, I will say no more for fear of spoilers but it’s a fairly unique element and a lot of fun!
Lighting was never an issue within the game.

Game Play:
A linear game which took a very hands-on approach with the focus being on communication, deduction, translation, logic, searching and physical puzzles.
A room that leant more on the “puzzle” strengths of  Escapologic’s resume.
Each and every puzzle was deliciously logical, and there were no ambiguity at all within the game. The ah-ha moments came thick and fast and once the method to a puzzle had been deducted solving was a slick experience.
All the puzzles were nicely in theme and even though this room felt “puzzley” it still had Escapologic’s stamp of exploration, immersion and interaction within the room.
The exploration was excellent, each turn of the game left us revelling in where we had just been and where we were going to go to next. A brilliant feeling and it felt like the game went on forever! (In the best way)
Signposting was well integrated into the room, with there being just enough to direct but also you had to make your own connections which only aided with the sense of exploration within the game.
Flow was exemplary and the game pretty much ran itself, with no sticky moments or deliberate slowdowns it was a joy to play.

Clue System:
Clues were delivered via Maid Marian and an Answerphone.

Game Host:
Tom was our game host and he was practically perfect! Funny, friendly and he delivered a great brief and story (even if we did digress and pull him “off script” a few times… sorry Tom!) Tom was exemplary in his role, even passing my coat into the room when I said I was cold! Everyone needs Tom to Gamehost at least 1 of their Escapologicn Games in their lifetime!

Did we escape?
