Escapologic – Robin of Lockskey

Escapologic – Robin of Lockskey.

We were lucky enough to be invited to Escapologic to preview their newest game “Robin of Lockskey” – Robin is available to book online now and opens on Monday 28th August. As the game was still in testing, it may have changed slightly by the time it finally opens. We will review the game as we found it, and knowing Escapologic the game will only improve in the interim between our playing and its opening!

Theme:
“Your team are students at a prestigious university under the tutelage of the eccentric history professor, Dr. John Little.

Last he told you, he was close to finding the true location of Robin Hoods grave.

He believed Robin was buried here, under the old car park.

Unfortunately a building company recently purchased the land and they want to fill it in with concrete, unknowingly destroying one of the greatest finds in British history.

The professor was found trespassing on the site, looking for evidence of the grave and has been arrested. The task has been left to you.

The work is set to be started after the builders return from lunch in one hour.

Go down into the site, find Robins grave, bring evidence back up to the surface and stop them destroying history!”

The setting for Robin is gritty, real and very, very much under the car park. It’s underground. Way, underground and as authentic as you can get!! Real brick, Real dirt, real walls, real everything. It really feels like you’re breaking an entering and keeps immersion high through the props and fact that it’s all REAL! It is the most creative use of space I have seen in an escape room!
A couple of warnings though…. as one would expect in a construction site it was grubby. Escapologic have it covered though; gloves, hard hats, hi-viz and (if required) full body overalls are provided to prevent grubbiness (however, I played the whole game with no PPE and I was fine… my hands got a little dirty, but that didn’t bother me in the least)
It’s also a very small space, with low ceilings and small, tight spaces. This just adds to the immersion and sense of discovery along the way!

Game Play:
Escapologic is all about the journey… the game is focused primarily on physical, hands on, real life puzzles… puzzles and things you would have to do if you were in the real situation of trying to find a grave, a clear goal that you always have in the back of your mind throughout the game.
We love this, and it makes for a incredibly exciting time when you find an item, figure out how to use it and then something magical happens within the room!
The puzzles were all good fun, with solid logic and good ah-ha moments. (Although we managed to bypass a puzzle by Ian using his super problem solving skills, but this didn’t effect our game play!) We didn’t stop doing things for the entire hour, chipping away (metaphorically) at the quest to find Robin.
Robin is all about discovery, every action in the room unlocks something, gives you something or leads you closer to the grave. It reminded me a bit of Cryptic, full of nooks and crannies to get stuck into and find unexpected items!
It’s those twists, turns and unexpected discoveries that make this game a full on adventure in only 60 minutes!
I would recommend 4 people max for this game, there are some very small spaces! 2 if you’re experienced!

Clues are delivered via a builders radio!

Will was our game host, very polite, friendly. He ran our game excellently and gave us hints only when we really, really needed them!

Did we escape?
Yes, in about 45 minutes!
