Top Escape Rooms – Rockstar Swan Song
Location: Worcester
Game Date: 27/08/2020
Team: Amy & Ian
Duration: 75 minutes
Theme:
“Dean Waylon is the front man of the band, Us, Them, Or Dean. Tonight, they will be performing the kick-off show of their concert run at the Colosseum Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
Over his four-decade career, life in the limelight left Dean increasingly indulgent and jaded. Fans and critics alike have been predicting his retirement for a while now. Sure enough, Dean recently announced that this production will be his last.
As the music reporter for the local paper, you’ve got your backstage pass, and you’re eager to interview Dean while he is still an active performer. The show starts soon, and you’ve been sitting for ages with the other reporters in the media room – Dean is running late. However, as more time passes, it’s becoming clear that something is wrong.
Checking in Dean’s dressing room, his manager finds Dean’s personal belongings, but no sign of Dean. Word circulates around the backstage, and the crowd of onlookers become increasingly suspicious as security tries to manage the situation. While the other reporters race to be the first to blog this curious development, you discreetly slip into Dean’s dressing room.”
Find the clues and solve the puzzles as you retrace the career of Dean Waylon. If you’re quick, you can get the scoop on his disappearance before security catches you.”
Rockstar looked great, finished to a high standard with a good immersion. Well decorated and all props were authentic and true to the theme of the room.
There were no red herrings in the room and everything was either used in the game or there for theming purposes.
The room was large and airy, and lighting was excellent.
Game Play:
A linear game that had a good mix of puzzles, word, math, logic, music, light physical, teamwork, observation, code breaking. There were enough puzzles in this game to make sure everyone got their moment. (One personal highlight for me, was the music puzzle which was a joy to solve, and it was great being able to use my music skills in an escape room!)
The puzzles were all fairly on theme, sometimes being classic puzzles tweaked to fit the theme but there were some unique and interesting ones thrown into the game.
The puzzles were for the majority very logical, although there were some subtle logic leaps that you have to delve a little deeper into the game to find, and there is a LOT of reading involved which aids the puzzles but also delivers a lot of story.
Ah-ha moments were there, and they were enjoyable when we received them, some puzzles took a bit of work to get to the all-crucial moment.
Flow was very good, and we were kept moving through the game at a steady pace.
Signposting was subtle and sometimes took a few moments to click into place.
A good game for enthusiasts as it is quite puzzle heavy and involved.
Clue System:
Clues were delivered via a screen.
Game Host:
Adam and Vicki were our game hosts, and they were so very welcoming. Giving us a great brief and perfectly timed clues. Their passion and enthusiasm for creating the very best games shines through and I can’t wait to see what they come up with in the future!
