Tulleys Escape – The Outfitters

Tulleys Escape – The Outfitters.
Location: Crawley
Game Date 24/08/2017.
Team: Amy & Ian

We’d been to Tulleys a couple of years ago for their Halloween even, Shocktoberfest, and we encountered some lavish sets and brilliant attention to detail, as soon as we heard about the escape opening we were keen to check it out! We were invited down to play, and take part in some promotional material… Would the escape rooms meet with the same quality as Shocktoberfest?

Theme:
“It’s 1926 here in Chicago, and depression is still rife. Jobs are few and far between and the Prohibition has been in force for six years now. Everyone still drinks, nothin’ has changed. But now the mob control the streets, the supply and the money. The influence of the Outfit is far reaching. Most of the cops are even under their control. Who can put them in the joint? You can, that’s who.

The Commissioner has put together a special task force of straight, trusted cops and you’re on the team. You’ve spent the last few months infiltrating their network and now tonight is the night to get the evidence you need to put them away forever. But it won’t be easy, and you might not make it out alive.

Do you have what it takes?”

Wow, from the moment you step into The Outfitters it is clear that this is a special room, the decoration is tip-top, and thoroughly immersive from the get go (their pre-game video is exceptional, and give an edge to the escape rooms that I really hope they expand on in times to come)
The set is excellent, and the room just keeps on giving different environments and rooms to be in awe of. Every single environment was themed superbly and we were 100% immersed in the seedy underworld for the hour.
The room is large, and will easily accomodate all group sizes. Just brilliant!

Game Play:
A fairly linear game with LOTS to do, but don’t let that put you off.
There are lots of different puzzle types, logic, observation code breaking, skill, communication, maths, words. A primarily “mental” game, but there really is something for everyone to excel at! There are some tricky puzzles in the game which need critical thinking, but no logic leaps which was excellent.
The flow was sublime, with every puzzle easily flowing onto the next, creating Ah-ha moments galore and exciting twists and turns throughout the game.
There is an excellent use of tech in the room, with great puzzles to back this up.
A fantastic room for enthusiasts, and whilst you may have seen some of the puzzles before, the implementation and execution of them is fresh and exciting.
Newbies, take a big group, you’re gonna need a good few brains!

Clue System:
Clues were delivered via voice over, and they got it spot on. A very clear speaker delivered the sound to the room and it was clear to hear our clues

Game Host:
Stuart hosted our game (And is also the owner of Tulleys!) He welcomed us warmly and we could have chatted about escaping for ages! He dropped us hints at the perfect time and stopped us feeling any frustration and kept us moving forward in the game.

Did we escape?
Yes, in about 55 minutes!
