Tulleys Escape – Mutiny.
Location: Crawley
Game Date 24/08/2017.
Team: Amy & Ian

mutiny

Theme:
“It’s the year of our lord 1672, and you be right in the height o’ the golden age o’ piracy…

After years of sailin’ the high seas, you and your crew have succeeded your fair share of ambushes, and as a result – your ship is teamin’ with bounty.

Yet you’re still suffering beneath the cruel wrath o’ Captain Starling – a notoriously bloodthirsty buccaneer, and your shipmates have decided you all shall take matters into your own hands. After all… you fought for the gold, so the gold is yours for the taking, aye?

Once the old seadog has retreated to his berth for the night, you make your move. Get in, get the treasure and get out. You won’t have long before he starts to stir – and Starling shows no mercy to ANY soul…”

This room started off very dark, and me very worried. I am not the biggest fan of dark rooms and there was no viable torches around, my fears were soon quashed when after the intro video the lights came up to reveal a gorgeous ship’s cabin! The attention to detail in the room again was second to none, with oak everywhere (or whatever type of wood you build a ship out of!) and the surrounding were gorgeously immersive!
The room expanded to reveal a deck of the ship with 2 centre piece puzzles that were begging to be gotten on with! The room just kept giving with its theming, including one special area that will remain tightly behind my sealed lips. It was SUCH a wow moment!
The standard of both Tulleys Escapes is that I would expect at Disney, or Universal. Perfect Theme Park quality.

Game Play:
Quite an open game, we split of and solved a few puzzles individually before coming back together to tackle the lovely centrepiece puzzles.
There was a range of puzzles, with a bias towards bit chunky physical puzzles complimented by logic, codebreaking, skill, maths, word, pattern matching. A really mix but plenty for everyone to be getting on with, and a fair bit of exploration and observation too!
The flow was wonderful (even if we did have a pesky mag lock and mid game reset, that DIDN’T affect our game at all! Honestly they dealt with it incredibly well to the point that I didn’t even realise!) all the puzzles had exciting ah-ha moments and satisfying reactions, be they unlocking a padlock or something magically popping open!
I can’t say more than EVERY one needs to play this game, Enthusiasts especially this game is gorgeous and at a perfect level for an enthusiast group of 2. Newbies may want to pad the brains out a little to get through all which is thrown at you, again… there is a LOT to do!

Clue System:
Clues were delivered via voice over, (a helpful parrot!) and they got it spot on. A very clear speaker delivered the sound to the room and it was clear to hear our clues

Game Host:
Stuart hosted our game (And is also the owner of Tulleys!) He welcomed us warmly and we could have chatted about escaping for ages! He dropped us hints at the perfect time and stopped us feeling any frustration and kept us moving forward in the game.

Did we escape?
Yes, in about 53 minutes!
