Enigma Rooms – Ward 13

Enigma Rooms – Ward 13.
Location: Doncaster
Game Date 01/04/2017.
Team: Amy & Ian

room-2

Theme:
“You’ve been mistakenly put on Ward 13, you have only 60 minutes to escape before been trapped here forever.
Ward 13 is otherwise known as The Morgue!!”

The theming & decoration was great, although it was quite dingy within the room, with low light levels, this was fitting for the theme of the room, an abandonded asylum would not have a lot of light.
The morgue was eerie and clinical and a sense of foreboding fell over the entire room. The story was delivered well throughout the puzzles.

Game Play:
A linear room with some really fun puzzles with a good flow. A good mix of logic/observation/word with a few normal escape room tropes thrown in. A couple of puzzles required small logic leaps that Ian got very well, so maybe it was my tiredness that caught me out on them and not the puzzle design. All puzzles had good ah-ha moments and there wasn’t much searching to be done at all.
The room’s finale puzzle & exit were the highlight for me, such a fun way to exit a room!
Experienced players will enjoy this room and find a challenge in the design. Newbies would find this a hard room to start off with.

Clue System:
Clues were delivered via a screen in the room. You get 2 “life lines” (you can also get freebie hints but these are very few and far between – Enigma rooms,  whilst being tough with the hints still want you to have fun and not feel frustrated)  I wasn’t too keen on this idea, as we much prefer when clues are delivered when you need them. This obviously inflates the difficulty within the room, but at the same time it does give immense satisfaction to beat a room with only 2 or 3 hints!

Game Host:
Nick was our game host, and Enigma Rooms do the briefing slightly differently in that ALL the games start at the same time and he briefs everyone together. I really enjoyed this as it gave a real sense of camaraderie and team play with all the groups

Did we escape?
Yes in 49 minutes!
