Breakout Chester – Wanted

Breakout Chester –  Wanted. Game Date 17/11/2016. Team: Amy & Ian

We were very lucky to be invited to play Wanted at Breakout Chester, the newest of Breakout’s franchises across the North West (the only venue we haven’t played at now is Cardiff!) We decided to play the Wanted room, as we’d played Liverpool’s, but this was based on Manchester’s version which was different enough to warrant a game!
Situated in the heart of Chester (near Yo Sushi) it’s easily accessible, right in the city centre, and the Chester Market car park is free after 3pm which is excellent!

Theme:
“Wanted is a wild west themed room. Think of yourselves as bounty hunters of the Wild West breaking in to a saloon in search of loot! Make sure you’re out by the time the sheriff returns; even if it means leaving some of your riches behind or you’ll end up spending the night in a cell as Breakout Chester’s Most Wanted!”

Wanted was decorated very, very nicely and to a high finish, with everything you’d expect in a saloon.. a dart board, bar, stools, saddles (which were English, but that is a minor discrepancy that maybe only a horsey person would pick up on!) beer glasses strewn everywhere. The theming did put you in the feel of being in a wild west saloon and I love the soundtrack, that is one of the highlights of the theming wanted room for me! Breakout certainly has a continuity and a good standard of theming across all their rooms and venues!

Game Play:
There was a good variety of puzzles and a nice linear flow to this room, with some crossovers from Liverpool’s breakout but at a different stage of the game. The latter half of the game was totally different however, and that’s where we really enjoyed ourselves, with some fantastic puzzles that we REALLY enjoyed, even if Ian did ruin on puzzle by tipping all the bits off the sheet onto the table by accident! The room kept rolling along and save for a few moments of bad searching on our part we didn’t hit any illogical sticky spots! A nice room with the standard “lots of locks!!!” that Breakout has, which I enjoy!

Clue System:
Clues were delivered via a screen with an appropriate sound cue (a gunshot!)

Game Host:
Mike was our game host, (also the owner of Breakout Chester) and was incredibly friendly, a great host, especially since Breakout has only been open for a week (at the time of writing) – he read our game very, very well and gave us clues at the best time!!

Did we escape?
Yes, with 18 minutes to spare!
