Cryptology – The Crypt

THIS GAME IS NOW CLOSED – although it has been reimagined completley and re-invented as Ramaseize
Cryptology – The Crypt.
Location: Nottingham
Game Date 25/10/2016.
Team: Amy & Ian

After a quick maccies break, it was back over to Cryptology to tackle their next room, and see what surprises were held in store for us!
We were welcomed again by Mark, and he took us up the stairs to the foyer and The Crypt!
Once we got our breath back Mark briefed us and got us into the room! (In a unique way!)

Theme:
“Pharaoh Rameses has sent you and your peers to The Crypt where you will starve some of his minions are sympathisers and have given you the means to escape can you and your team unshackle and free yourselves before the guard comes to make their first inspection?”

I always love the theming of Egyptian escape rooms, there is so much scope to go wild as each tomb will have been decorated individually! The theming here was lovely, everything fit in with the Egyptian theme, even the light level. It was not dark, it was dimly lit. Some people may find the use of a torch helpful (they are provided, in theme) but for the main part, we didn’t feel the need to use them. The decor was simple, yet finessed and not cluttered, which could be easy to do given the theme. It was immersive, and very atmospheric.

Game Play:
Another beautifully linear game, which unfolded perfectly in front of us! The puzzles were a mix of physical, mental and skill (with one puzzle really exciting me as it was just like one from the crystal maze!!) and a little bit of searching.
The end goal was clear from the start, and getting there was so much fun, we’ll even forgive the jigsaw puzzle as this had another side to it!
There is a sneaky twist at the beginning of the game, which leads to a great first puzzle and a wonderful reveal to the bulk of the game.
Cryptology do a great job of immersion through puzzles, and although there were more padlocks than one may find in ancient Egypt, the puzzles were so good that this was not a concern in the slightest (as we do expect some padlocks in escape rooms don’t we!)

Clue System:
Clues were delivered via a screen with an appropriate sound

Game Host:
Mark was our game host again, and ran the game so very well, he was clearly paying full attention! Clues came perfectly and nudged us along nicely! I love Mark’s sense of humour in his hints, it really made me laugh properly a few time!

Did we escape?
Yes in 51 minutes, a very enjoyable game! Cryptology also give lovely certificates if you pass the room, a great memento!
