We were incredibly lucky to be invited by Exit Games Scotland along with Mark from Really Fun to come and play ALL FIVE rooms at Escapologic in Nottingham! What an opportunity, as we were in Birmingham the night before, we made the hour or so drive up, and parked  in Nottingham city centre (the car park only cost £4.20 ALL day, bargain!)
We easily found Escapologic and were welcomed warmly by Simon who created and owns Escapologic

The waiting area was themed incredibly, dark, foreboding, with graffiti from all the previous players all over the walls and floors! Such a different take on the usual stark sometimes clinical waiting areas, I knew we were in for a special day from the moment we walked in!

Now, I don’t normally talk about toilets in my reviews (unless they were dirty working ones left in games for no reason… coughvacancycough) but the customer toilets at Escapologic were themed… to a jungle… talking about getting in touch with nature!

Anyway, introductions made, team formed… we were ready to tackle Escapologic’s original room, Con-TRAP-tion!

Theme:
“Strange machinery breathes in the stillness of the laboratory. Bubbles rise in a mysterious green liquid. Cogs tick. Gears clank. And in the air, the unmistakeable sound of fear…

As your breathing stills, and your pulse slows to normal, you take a look around. What happened here? It looks like the previous occupant of the room has left in a big hurry. But why? Your eyes grow used to the dusty light, and you begin to make out the discarded pieces of arcane mechanisms. There has to be a pattern, a code, something to show you the way out.”

Wow. Wow. Wow. Talk about immersion, the room, whilst not the largest was immaculately themed, everything was spot on for the era, and nothing was out of place to the mad inventors work shop. It even smells right… the light levels were perfect. Escapologic really takes you away from the real world and gives a level of immersion that rivals Theme Parks. The rooms would not look out of place at Universal Studios, the theming is that superb!

Game Play:
2 padlocks…. TWO. All 5 of us escape “pros” walked into this room and were a little bit flummoxed! No combinations to work out, no codes… What were we to do!
BUT, the game play was so organic and intrinsic to the room, we soon got into it and were “steaming” along, the puzzles came naturally and again organically, and were what you would face if the situation you were in was real!

Clue System:
Clues again, were delivered in theming with the room, this time on a light up board of words, it was absolutely ingenious!

Game Host:
Our game host was really energetic, “into” the the room and told the story very well! Clues were delivered at just the right time, and nudged us in the right direction!

Did we escape?
Yes, in about 35 minutes!
