Game Over Rochdale – Pirates of Caribbean. Game Date: 13/02/2018. Team: Amy & Ian
“The most feared ship of all pirates ‘Blackbeard’ is lying low in the water, laden with gold. Will you risk it all by sneaking aboard, getting past the skeleton crew, and stealing away with his most valuable item? Hurry the coast won’t be clear for long…either glory or death await you”
Theming was lovely, as we’ve come to expect from a Game Over Franchise, they certainly do go to the extra effort with their sets to create an immersive experience. The room was large, and lit atmospherically, the lighting was good enough but if you have an older member of your team they might need to reach for the torch. There was a soundtrack playing which added to the immersion.
A linear game, with a good range of puzzles, leaning towards observation but with some nice logic and word puzzles thrown in. There is certainly something to suit everyone in this room and the sense of discovery was nice. The room mixed tech and padlocks very well. Now normally I wouldn’t point this out, but the use of tech complimented the more classical puzzles and was implemented in a way that was fitting to the theme of the room.
The flow was excellent, smooth and every puzzle lead nicely to the next. There were no logic leaps and the puzzles all had some nice ah-ha moments.
The game is certainly aimed at beginners, experienced teams may find themselves whizzing through this room due to the logical nature and clearness of the puzzles.
Clues were delivered via an intercom, and this was also where we were alerted to our time remaining.
Callum was our Game Host and he was wonderful, very accommodating and welcoming. He clearly has an enthusiasm for escape rooms and we chatted for a while after our game. We didn’t use any hints within the room, but I am sure if we had needed them Callum would have been excellent in his timing.
Did we escape?
Yes, in 24 minutes!
